Adventures at the Intersections: How to write a book about head transplant
In the history of medicine, the quest for knowledge has taken many twists and turns. The American neurosurgeon Dr. Robert White got a lot of attention for his search for a way to “transplant the soul” – by doing head transplant experiments on monkeys.
Welcome to a public lecture with Dr. Brandy Schillace (PhD, author, historian, and editor in chief) on her book and the “delightfully macabre” true tale:
“Mr. Humble and Dr. Butcher: A Monkey's Head, the Pope's Neuroscientist, and the Quest to Transplant the Soul”
The lecture will be held in English and open for all. First come, first served, no registration necessary.
Organisers: Swedish Network of Medical Humanities and Birgit Rausing Centre for Medical Humanities at Lund University
Dr. Brandy Schillace is not only an author, she is also editor in chief for the well-renowned academic journal "Medical Humanities". The journal presents the international conversation around medicine and its engagement with the humanities and arts, social sciences, health policy, medical education, patient experience, and the public at large.
